Descano Gardens
La Cãnada Flintridge
Descano Garden in inland southern California is reminiscent of garden I visited in England with a less formal/lower water flare.
Lots of benches in the shade that make even the hottest of days quite comfortable.
Tree lined streams with cascades emphasize the tranquil charm
Rose garden was past is spring bloom by mid June but with all the arbors and promenades ensure the mid spring weddings here are much in demand.
Center circle is a beautiful example of what the local landscapes should like filled with low water plants in a pleasant patio design.
The surprise was the native section. By mid June these tend to look sparse especially inland. But there were still quite a few in bloom and organized in several Vinettes that I could see in residential implementations
Beautiful redbud examples in the oak woodland. One of my favorite spots was a cabin like structure that over looked the garden and the mountain view behind.
The Camellia garden while just green now must be amazing in the winter. There had to be thousands. It is purported to have started with a purchase of almost 100,000 plants from Japanese run nurseries of friends families about to be interred to n 1942.
Next to the main house is a museum and interesting example of a succulent vertical wall.
